4 for 1 swap with Cardboard Greats

Do any of you buy cards online or at shops/shows with other collectors in mind? I often see cards that a fellow blogger would want, and if the price is too good to pass up I grab it for them. Such was the case during COMC's end-of-year 'bonus' sale, when I picked up some buybacks for Shoebox Shane's Frankenset..and a Craig Kimbrel patch card for Henry, author of the blog Cardboard Greats.

Henry offered up a selection of relics and autos in exchange for the Kimbrel. I chose these four:

Fleer Greats from Cardboard Greats. This Paul Molitor relic is a little chipped, but if you've seen my COMC purchases you know that I don't mind a little corner wear.

This Eric Hosmer relic is right up my alley. It's from the 2017 Topps Heritage set and it's very, very blue. Hoz had a rough first year with the Padres but hopefully he'll bounce back in 2019.

Here's the first of two autographed cards in this trade. The Yankees are assembling a Bronx Rockies with DJ LeMahieu here, as well as Adam Ottavino and Troy Tulowitzki. Let's hope they stop raiding the Rox before Nolan Arenado puts on pinstripes.

Last but not least, here's a Topps Gallery auto of Red Sox lefty Eduardo Rodriguez. I was surprised that Henry would offer up a Red Sox card, as we're both Boston fans. ERod's signature isn't the best, and it is a stickergraph...but I'm happy to add it to my collection.

Thanks for the trade Henry! I hope you enjoy the Kimbrel patch.

Update: Congrats to the newest members of the Baseball Hall of Fame!

 Mariano Rivera - 100%

 Edgar Martinez - 85.4%

 Roy Halladay - 85.4%

Mike Mussina - 76.7%

  1. I do buy cards for others at shows. The problem is there are so few shows that I do it maybe 2 or 3 times a year, max.

  2. When I see buybacks at shows in the cheap bins, I buy them for Shane's Frankenset. Other than that I rarely shop for others at shows unless I've made a specific deal.

  3. Yup. I'm always on the lookout at card shows for discounted Tigers, Dodgers, Red Sox, and Yankees. Figure you can never have too many of these since multiple bloggers collect them. Plus I'll head over to COMC a few times a year and target players and teams for people on my hit list.

P.S. Love the simplicity of that Molitor jersey card. Great design.

  4. Glad you liked the relics and autos I sent your way. The Kimbrel card you sent me is truly incredible, especially in-person. I'll be posting a recap of our trade in the next half hour or so. Thanks again.
