This post is like a box of chocolates

I had planned an obligatory Valentine's Day post, which would have been called "Love is in the air." But I don't have any cards of Kevin Love dunking (I only have three or four Kevin Love cards in my collection) so Instead I'm going to make this an assortment of random thoughts and mini-posts.

You may have noticed a new tab at the top of my blog. I added a top 10 most wanted wantlist, and updated the other wantlists.

Also, I deleted my other blog. It was mostly a journal of non-sports thoughts like what music I'm into, what girls I've been crushing on, and what's going on in my family life. Not really in the mood to go into much detail about those things anymore. If I do, I'll post about it in this blog.

For example: if I wanted to discuss the new Fall Out Boy album M A N I A, I don't need to write up a whole review about it only to get two or three comments from people who aren't fans and/or have never heard of them. I can just share my thoughts right here.

Why does it seem like FOB always has great tracks mixed in with weird/bad ones? They're my favorite band and all, but sometimes they frustrate me.

Tracks I'm really into: Stay Frosty Royal Milk Tea, Champion, Hold Me Tight Or Don't, Wilson
Track I love but I'm kinda getting sick of it: The Last of the Real Ones
Tracks I'm on the fence about: Heaven's Gate, Bishop's Knife Trick, Church
Tracks I really do not like at all: Young and Menace, Sunshine Riptide

Is anyone else watching the Waco mini-series? I'm really into it. I was 12 when all that went down and I remember seeing it on the news but I never really knew the details. I just thought David Koresh was this crazy-ass cult leader who set his church on fire so the feds wouldn't catch him. I'm sure the show will get to that, but I've enjoyed seeing the backstory play out from different perspectives.

Also, Melissa Benoist.

I'm not sure what to watch tonight: Waco or the Olympics? I'll probably watch the Olympics tonight and catch up with Waco on demand. Unless the skiing events are delayed again

I guess there aren't a lot of Olympics fans on the cardsphere (except EP) but the games have been very exciting so far. And, when you watch nothing but Olympic coverage for a few days it's easy to forget how much the world sucks sometimes. I turned on NBC and saw another school shooting on the news. Then I switched to ESPN and the Around The Horn panelists were discussing some gossip about Shaun White. I'm guessing someone accused him of sexual misconduct...but I honestly don't want to know. The tricks he did in the half pipe last night were incredible, and his emotional reaction to winning the gold was even better. Let's leave it at that.

There are not enough Olympics cards out there. SI for Kids seems to be the only reliable producer of such trading cards,. and I understand why. I'd love to get a Shaun White card or a Mikaela Shiffrin card.. but I'm not going to pay $20 for a blaster box of Olympians that may or may not include those two - nevermind $60+ for a hobby box.

I've had a post in mind that would have chronicled my COMC purchases over the past month or so, but I've had so many other things to write about that I couldn't get it out.

Long story short, I bought this with $20 in earned credit:

I'm about a month away from bringing it home, though. I need to buy a few more cards (to get 100 and the $5 credit) then earn enough credit to cover shipping. Not gonna pay actual cash since I spent $50 on the Taylor Hall YG and another $50 on some 1956 Topps cards.

In trading news, PWEs went out to Tim, Mike, and Jon. If you don't receive them by the end of the week let me know.

I'll end this post with a surprise mailday from the world's biggest Bob Walk fan. I picked out some Pirates for Matt as part of my 500-card COMC order...and he sent me a pair of Sox:

A nice on-card auto of Jim Rice from 2015 Panini Cooperstown. You're not going to convince me he doesn't belong in the Hall.

This Diamond Kings Nomar card is cool...but why is it in a one-touch holder?

Ohhh! It's a 1 of 1 "challenge" parallel. This might be the only 1 of 1 card in my collection; I've owned a few over the years but I think I sold them all. This one's a keeper though. Thanks very much Matt!

Happy Valentine's day everyone. Thanks for reading!

  1. I've been watching Olympics every night! Skiing is finally happening! I'm waiting on the Olympic set. I bought a hobby box in 2014 when it came out, and then a year or two later I saw it for sale on Dave & Adam's for so low I could have bought three boxes instead of one. Now I'm waiting...did the same with hoops this year. I want the cards, but I don't have to have them right away. Hopefully I don't get burned by the prices going up.

  3. I got the Nomar at the same time as a bunch of Pirate 1/1's. A seller was breaking up a huge collection. Glad they arrived safe and sound!

  4. Those are some nice Red Sox cards! I've been watching the Olympics - outside of hockey and curling, I don't have much interest, yet I find myself sucked into it. It's usually better than most of the other stuff on TV.

  5. That Waco show seems like it's pretty popular. Might look into it after I finish some Hulu shows. Now that the snowboarding stuff is finished, the only thing I'm interested in is hockey... but I probably won't actually watch the games. Highlights are sufficient. Nice call on SI for Kids. I have an upcoming post dedicated to them and the rise of The Digital Age.
