Big League Box + Prizm Packs

My first sports card purchase of 2019 arrived earlier this week. I bought two boxes of 9-pocket pages from Blowout Cards as part of my (hopefully) final reorganization project. The pages were cheaper than anywhere else, and they had hobby boxes of 2018 Topps Big League baseball for $22.99. I grabbed one of those and searched the site for clearance deals.

These were the last two "Fat Packs" of 2015 Prizm football in stock. I really like the Prizm brand (thanks in no small part to Jon) but it isn't always the best value. $5 for 15 cards (or in my case $10 for 30 cards) is a much more palatable price.

The black packs contain Red, White, Blue Prizm parallels. I pulled a Packer and a pair of rookies:

Broadway Joe ain't bad, either.

Here are the first two regular packs o'Prizm:

There's Michael Floyd again. I've never heard of Darren Waller, but shiny is shiny.

Packs 3 and 4 were mostly Rams and Bengals. I already had the Dickerson, and I would have been happier with the Gurley RC before the playoffs. What was the deal with him - too much pizza?

Rounding out the packs we have a regular Prizm Bo and  Green Gronk.

Now for the box of Big League:

24 packs per box. Under a buck a pack. Can't beat that these days.

Gold parallels are one per pack:

Ernie Banks and his statue are the highlights here. The parallels seemed to pair up by team. Two Cubs, two Blue Jays, two Marlins...

..two Dodgers, Cardinals, Royals, and Braves.

Two thirds of the packs had an insert or a second parallel:

Not one of them were Red Sox :/

The "higher-end" cards were packed backwards:

Newcomb black & white #d/50, Upton rainbow foil #d/100. Meh, not a fan of Newcomb.

I now have two Angels in rainbow foil; I pulled a Keynan Middleton from a blaster last summer.

Finally, I got one autograph in this hobby box:

Good player. Not so good signature; the O looks like a sideways apple.

There are also photo variations because apparently every set has to have a bunch of pointless SPs now. I'm checking for those as I update my checklist on TCDB. I've got at least 50 dupes to trade and all of the inserts/parallels are available (except the Ernie Banks) so if you see something you like, let me know and we'll work something out.

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Congratulations on pulling an autograph of Olson. Here in the Bay Area, we're excited to see him and Chapman blossom into superstars this year.

  2. I keep hearing good things about this Matt Olson on Twitter, so you might want to hang on to that auto for a bit... just in case!

A Namath rwb, a silver Bo, and a green Gronk - you're rack packs turned out to be way better than the one I got for Christmas! Out of curiosity, are all of those, as well as the Dickerson base, keepers?

  7. I dig the gold parallels from Big League, and the autographs are pretty tough pulls from what I hear. Nice box.
