NFL Week - PWE Swap Meet Giveaway

Welp, I guess I waited just a little too long to start my celebration of football. The NFL season had been rolling along without a hitch, until Covid entered the chat. The Ravens-Steelers Thanksgiving night game has been postponed (again), the 49ers have been temporarily evicted from Santa Clara, and the Broncos started a practice squad wide receiver at quarterback.

In non-pandemic news, Texans wide receiver Will Fuller was suspended for using a banned substance - one day after torching the Lions for 171 yards and two scores. There was some buzz that the Packers discussed trading for Fuller at the deadline. Looks like they dodged a bullet there.

All that said, there aren't a lot of other sports going on right now. Basketball and hockey are in their off-season, and the baseball Hot Stove has yet to heat up. Football is pretty much all we've got. So let's enjoy it!

Every day from now until Monday I'll have an NFL-themed post either here or at The 1993. This will include some topics I've wanted to discuss for a while - sprinkled with stats, stories, and lots of cards.

Today's post will be a little shorter since I've got a lot of writing and scanning to do. In my previous post I mentioned hosting a PWE Swap Meet. I'll be promoting this at the end of every NFL Week post.

Basically, I'm trying to diversify my football card collection, so I'm asking anyone who wishes to participate to send me a PWE with any unwanted football cards (4-15 cards or more if you can fit 'em) and I'll send you an equal amount of cards in return. Just let me know what sport/player/team you'd like to receive. I'll also browse your set needs and TCDB wantlist if you're a member.

Now here's the fun part. Anyone who swaps PWEs with me from now until December 28th is entered into a giveaway for a medium flat rate box o' mystery. This box will contain baseball cards, football cards, gently used card storage supplies, and other surprises. I'm trying to make mystery boxes a thing at The Collector.

Your PWE must be received by December 28th in order to qualify. If I get it "late" I'll still send you some cards, of course. I'd gladly accept set fillers from other sports but please send at least some football cards. Here are a couple examples of what I'm looking for:

These were sent to me by TCDB user Ggo64. I had received Buffalo Bills cards from T206 that were supposed to go to him. When I sent the cards he was due Greg thanked me with this nice PWE of (I assume) some duplicate Bills. The 1987 Topps cards were set fillers, as was the Donruss Adolphus Washington. The Optic holo parallel was a nice bonus, and he sent me two KHL hockey cads as well.

Donruss football cards are always welcome. These 2020 singles arrived in today's mail from TCDB user troadifer. I sent a PWE with six Red Sox duplicates (five from 2018 Topps) in a PWE to Montana. This is the type of trade that I would make all day long. I have tons of extra Topps baseball cards and turning them into football faves is what this swap meet is all about.

The cards were packed well, a 3-pocket page cutout was sandwiched between two thin pieces of cardboard. However there was a hole in the top of the envelope, which might explain why the Davante Adams was nicked up at the top edge. :/

Davante commented on the Packers' declining to trade for Will Fuller at the time, stating he wouldn't mind some help but that he was confident in the group that they had. Similar comments were made when the Packers passed on wide receivers in the NFL draft, opting to select quarterback Jordan Love instead.

It seems like the front office knew what they were doing. Green Bay is 8-3 and Adams is arguably the best receiver in football. Given his success on a marquee team, and the popularity of the Prizm brand, I thought I had a $50 card on my hands here. Turns out you can pick up a copy for less than $20.

Don't worry, my NFL week posts won't all be Packers-themed. In fact I have just one Packer post planned. The rest of the topics will range from expansion to quarterbacks to card comparisons. Tomorrow's topic will be hosted at the 1993, but I'll be back here on Thursday when hopefully my COMC order arrives. [I do have a backup topic just in case the cards don't arrive in time.] Hope you'll stop by both blogs for all of the NFL Week excitement!

Thanks for reading!

  2. Fingers crossed on your COMC order finally arriving. I'm thinking that I won't see the stuff in my account until the end of next year :(

  3. Nice Adams rookie card. I kinda missed the boat on him and don't want to pay top dollar for a rookie card. But I'm okay with that as long as he keeps scoring touchdowns for the Packers.

    1. I definitely don't have more than a PWE full of cards you collect, but if you want to send multiple PWEs you'll get multiple slots in the giveaway drawing.

    2. Cool - I'll try to do like I did with Julie's contest and send a bunch of PWEs to rig the vote. :)

    3. I'm also OK with getting random football back, especially NY Giants. Thanks!

  6. This sounds like fun and a place to get rid of some of my box full of dupes. Don't worry, not all giants.
